Could the COIL component designed in the workshop be implemented anytime?

It is recommended to implement it during the semester following the COIL Design workshop. Only for extraordinary reasons, it can be postponed, but it must be offered before August 2022.

Will the students receive credits for taking a course with a COIL component?

COIL components are incorporated into regular courses of institutional academic programs, for this reason, students receive credits by their home institution. The value of the program is the possibility to enrich regular courses with international, intercultural, collaborative experiences that promote internationalization of the curricula staying at their home institutions

Which courses are recommended to include a COIL component? Are COIL courses offered for the whole semester or only part of the semester?

The COIL methodology consists of creating multicultural educational environments in which professors from two institutions work together to develop modules that emphasize collaborative learning, allowing students to have intercultural experiences without having to travel internationally. The content of the courses is disciplinary or interdisciplinary. Professors develop together the contents of the COIL component that are offered in a virtual or hybrid, synchronous and/or asynchronous format. Students attend their regular course at their home institutions, that incorporates the COIL component. Online activities with students from the other country enrich regular courses providing a valuable international experience. Usually, COIL courses must include a period between 4 and 8 weeks during which the students of both institutions participate and interact in the activities designed in the COIL component. The duration of the COIL component is a joint decision made by professors that will teach the COIL course.
